Announcing the 2017 Conservation Award Hero Mickey Burleson

Mickey Burleson has dedicated much of her life to recovering Texas’s native Blackland Prairies and conserving Texas wildlife. She and her husband have been called the first prairie restorationists in Texas. Mickey and her husband coauthored an important guide to tall grass restoration. Over the decades they were able to nurture life back into over one hundred acres of former cotton fields on their Burleson Prairie.  She has been a close partner to Audubon, Native Prairie Association of Texas, Master Naturalists, and many other groups and  served on the boards of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission and Texas Land Conservancy.
