Join a group of TAS folks to see and learn about the Attwater’s Prairie Chickens at NASA. In 2005 the Houston Zoo and NASA’s JSC entered a partnership to breed Attwater’s Prairie Chickens on the JSC property. The birds are bred at JSC, the eggs are hatched at the Houston Zoo, and the resulting birds are put into the wild at various properties around Texas including the Attwater’s Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge. We will meet in the Clear Lake area on Saturday, April 8, around 2:00 pm and visit the Armand Bayou Nature Center (entrance fee required) then meet again at the NASA entrance gate on Sunday, April 9, at 9:00 am to catch a van to the breeding facilities. The birds are close enough to touch, but we won’t. This is the weekend of the Attwater’s Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge Festival near Eagle Lake so you might want to combine the two events. If you have any questions, contact Frances Cerbins, firstname.lastname@example.org.
