This optional field trip complements the Hummingbird Identification class. The trip will take place August 11 -13 with a cost of $40, plus food, travel and lodging for 2 nights. This field trip will be at a location in west Texas and will require hiking briskly 1 – 2 miles in extreme heat.
The Hummingbird Identification class will introduce the fourteen hummingbird species most commonly encountered in Texas. Byron Stone, aka “Dr Birdie,” will discuss their ranges, habitat, and frequency of occurrence, and will illustrate and discuss characteristics including behavior, field marks and vocalizations that can be used to identify these birds.
