Purple Martins have a major roosting site in Austin, originally at the Highland Mall and last year at Capital Plaza. This year, hundreds of thousands of birds will be at Texas Land & Cattle at the junction of I-35/290 around sunset. Please park on Clayton Lane and not the restaurant’s parking lot.
Watch a hurricane of birds as hundreds of thousands of Purple Martins “swirl” into their roosting site each evening. It’s better than the bats!
Binoculars are optional. Lawn chairs, cameras, and hats or umbrellas are highly recommended. This is a free event. Please consider making a donation to support our programming!
