2013 Conservation Award Hero David Bamberger

Starting in 1969, with the purchase of what he described as “the sorriest piece of land in Blanco County,” Mr. Bamberger spent decades restoring the ecological balance of 5,500 acres that had been virtually destroyed by more than a century of misuse. “Selah,” the Bamberger Ranch Preserve, is one of the largest habitat restoration projects in Texas and is home to an astounding variety of native species.

In addition to conservation, Bamberger Ranch has been dedicated to educating adults and children about land management, local ecology, and the natural world. Over 3,000 people visit Bamberger Ranch each year, from school field trips to local ranchers to environmental groups.

Mr. Bamberger’s passion for conservation shines through in his delight of sharing his experience and educating others.
