This trip has been cancelled due to reaching Stage 5 COVID-19 Restrictions in Travis County.
7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Birding in the summer doesn’t get much better than doing it at a “hot spot” in central Austin. On this 375-acre camp, there’s water, big Live Oaks and snags to attract nesting birds and residents: Summer Tanagers, vireos, flycatchers, goldfinches, N. Cardinals, woodpeckers, and Blue Jays. A bird checklist and map are attached.
Shortly after entering Camp Mabry from 35th St., you’ll have to pass through the guard station. Tell the guard you’re there for the TAS birding trip. All drivers must have a current driver’s license and passengers must have a valid ID. On the last page of the checklist you’ll see a map of Camp Mabry. Areas A and B are where we’ll be birding. Let’s meet at the pavilion (Area B) at 7:30am.
Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and snacks if you’d like. The trails are not too strenuous. There is a bathroom at the pavilion. As a reminder, we will be applying TAS Covid-19 protocols. The trip will be limited to 30 participants. Please DO NOT attend if you have a fever, cough, any other symptoms of illness, or if you have had a known exposure to Covid-19 within the preceding two weeks. Please bring your own binoculars as we will not be able to provide any loaners or share scopes.
