Many native bee species have specific habitat needs that are increasingly threatened by urbanization and the loss of ecosystems that support them. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the important role of native bees in Central Austin and discover how you can help support their populations.
The workshop will be led by Chris Garza, a Certified Ecologist, ISA Certified Arborist, and Certified Ecosystem Restoration Practitioner in Training.
Participants will begin with a lecture on the biology and conservation of native bees, including the key species found in Central Austin. Following the lecture, you’ll embark on a hike to explore local habitats and observe native bees in their natural environment. After the hike, time permitting, participants will have the opportunity to assemble their own native bee hotel. These kits, assembled by Jack McKinney from Troop 61, include all the necessary materials to create a bee hotel, along with seeds for native pollinator plants and an educational pamphlet on native bee conservation.
These bee habitat kits were thoughtfully prepared by Scouts from Troop 61. To ensure fair distribution, we kindly ask that each household limit their request to one bee hotel kit.
