8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Join Virginia Rose and Eric Clow in celebrating the 5th Annual Birdability Week with a morning of accessible birding at Berry Springs Park and Preserve in Georgetown! Berry Springs is the site of one of the oldest grist mills in Texas, built in 1846. But it also provides a breadth of habitats that makes it a haven for birds: large groves of century-old pecans, swaths of tall grass, a four-acre spring-fed lake that flows into a creek. If you haven’t been to Berry Springs, you are in for a treat!
This outing is designed for birders of all abilities and skill levels. All are welcome!
Access Info: We will wander a mix of paved and crushed-granite trails for a mile or until the group gets tired. The trails are wide, flat, and well-maintained, with lots of shade.
*For anyone who would prefer a stationary birding experience, we have a guide that will stay near the parking lot and offer a big sit. This will also be available to anyone who gets tired after wandering the trails. If you plan to join the big sit, you may want to bring an outdoor chair.
Unfortunately, the park is not located on a Capital Metro route, but it does have van-accessible parking. It also has bathrooms, but we are not sure how accessible they are.
What to Bring: As always, folks should bring a hat, water, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and/or whatever other birding tools you use. (We will provide loaner binoculars for those who need them.) If you can walk, you should wear comfortable shoes.
Registration for this outing is required and limited to 15 participants (plus additional attendants if you bring someone to help you participate). In the case of inclement weather, will notify participants by 7 AM on the morning of the outing. If you have any questions or additional access needs, please email Eric Clow at birdcitynews@gmail.com.
