Birdathon: Golden-cheeks at Baker

Friday, May 10,  7:30 AM – 11:00 AM
$75 per person, max. 12 people

Join Land Manager Chris Murray and Board Member Celeste Treadway for a special morning learning about Golden-cheeked Warblers!

Baker Sanctuary provides mature hardwood-juniper woodland habitat for the Golden-cheeked Warbler (GCWA), an endangered songbird that only nests in Central Texas. In recent years, we have counted around 70 breeding pairs per season, which is an incredible success for a 715-acre property. For this event, Chris will show you the work he has been doing to monitor GCWA on the property, including how he catches and bands the birds. While GCWA can be seen on the regular trails, you will get to visit a part of the property that is closed to the public (even members) for an even better chance to glimpse the birds in their habitat. You may even see ones that Chris has banded himself! You will also bird around the property with Celeste to look for other migratory birds. If you love Golden-cheeks, this is an event you don’t want to miss!

Chris would also like you to know that there is new art in the bathrooms of the Jackie Arnold Education Center, for those of you who enjoy visiting that eclectic little slice of the pavilion.
