Join Land Manager Chris Murray and Board Member Celeste Treadway for a special morning learning about Golden-cheeked Warblers!
Baker Sanctuary provides mature hardwood-juniper woodland habitat for the Golden-cheeked Warbler (GCWA), an endangered songbird that only nests in Central Texas. In recent years, we have counted around 70 breeding pairs per season, which is an incredible success for a 715-acre property. During this event, Chris will show you the work he has been doing to monitor GCWA on the property, including how he catches and bands the birds. While GCWA can be seen on the regular trails, you will get to visit a part of the property that is closed to the public (even members) for an even better chance to glimpse the birds in their habitat. You may even see ones that Chris has banded himself! You will also bird around the property to look for other migratory and resident birds. If you love Golden-cheeks, this is an event you don’t want to miss!
Many of the trails at Baker Sanctuary have sections that are moderately difficult, with uneven footing and trip hazards. Portions of this walk may not be suitable for individuals with significant mobility challenges. Please email celestetreadway@gmail.com to discuss any mobility challenges or concerns you have and possible accommodations we can make to include you in portions of this event.
