Join a a small group of birders at one of TPWD’s newest acquisitions, Powderhorn Ranch Wildlife Management Area and State Park, with Daniel Walker of TPWD. Powderhorn WMA and SP are in Calhoun County and about 3 hours from Austin. We will meet at the WMA entrance at 8:00 A.M. and group into as few vehicles as possible. Plan to bird the property until around 3:00 P.M. We will be a good distance from any facilities so bring your lunch and snacks, water, sturdy boots, and dress for the weather. We will be birding a variety of habitats including lake, bay and coastal oaks. Migration will be in full swing, so we should see a migrant or two!

Powderhorn Ranch is approximately 3 hours from Central Austin. You may choose whether to stay the night before or travel to the ranch early Saturday morning. There are several chain hotels in Port Lavaca about 20 minutes away from the ranch, as well as some locally owned motels in Port O’Connor about 5 minutes away from the ranch.
