Bird at the BCP! Not the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, but the Nature Conservancy’s Barton Creek Habitat Preserve!
Join Chris Gunter and Carol Ray at this preserve, a haven for migratory songbirds and a crucial guardian of water quality within the Barton Creek watershed.
The Barton Creek Habitat Preserve sprawls across over 4,000 acres of unspoiled natural terrain, boasting a pristine stretch of four miles along Barton Creek. Within its confines, limestone canyons and verdant hillsides serve as sanctuaries for a remarkable array of Texas wildlife. Notably, the preserve was originally secured under the Endangered Species Act to safeguard two migratory songbirds: the federally endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler and the Black-capped Vireo.
Embark on this extraordinary journey to explore the Golden-cheeked Warbler’s habitat, nestled right here in Austin yet secluded from public access. We’re privileged that TNC has granted us the opportunity to traverse this iconic property. The local Preserve Manager will be there to regale us with tales of the preserve’s storied past and significance to protecting nature.
Detailed instructions for accessing the property will be provided to registrants ahead of the event. A portion of the registration fee will contribute to TNC, recognizing their graciousness in hosting this event.
