Birding at Baker Sanctuary

8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Join Celeste Treadway on a morning walk along the Baker Springs Trail in Travis Audubon’s Baker Sanctuary. This lovely hill country trail starts on the rocky upper portion of the sanctuary, winding through woods and then downhill to reach Baker Creek. In the lush creekside growth, we will listen and look for our usual residents, as well as fall migrants and possibly some early winter birds. Baker presents a good opportunity to practice “ear birding”, since the thick growth sometimes makes it challenging to find birds by sight alone.

Overall trail difficulty is moderate; total distance is 1.8 miles, but the terrain is a little uneven in some places and has two short but relatively steep sections with fairly rocky footing.  We will be going slowly, but those with balance issues may find some sections of this trail to be challenging. This trail is not ADA accessible.

Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction, long pants, and bring water and bug spray. And of course bring your binoculars!

Registration required, walk limited to 10.
