8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
Please join Jennifer Bristol, author of Cemetery Birding and Parking Lot Birding, for an exploration of Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. She will be joined by Travis Audubon co-leader Cheryl McGrath and City of Austin Parks and Recreation staff for a fun morning of discovering birds and uncovering some of Austin’s most famous and infamous citizens of yester-year. This trip is suitable for youth and adults, but the gravel roads are not great for people with limited mobility.
Park along the street in front of the historic Oakwood Chapel, just inside the main gate at 1601 Navasota Street. Please arrive a few minutes before the scheduled start time. Bring binoculars if you have them (a small supply of loaners will be available), wear closed-toed shoes, and clothing layers appropriate for the weather. Bring water and snacks if desired. Walk will proceed in the event of drizzle or very light rain, but will be canceled for lightning or heavy rain. A small supply of loaner binoculars will be available.
A restroom will be available in the Chapel at the start and end of the walk.
This walk is free, but registration is required and limited to 16 participants.
