Birding at Roy G Guerrero Park

This field trip is free for Travis Audubon members and $10 for non-members. Registration is required.

Date: Saturday, Feb 22
Time: 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Location: Roy Guerrero Metropolitan Park Plaza 400 Grove Blvd at the Pavilion

Come check out one of Austin’s lesser-known birding spots, the cliff overlook area at Roy G Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park. TAS member and local bird photographer Dave Read will lead this walk around the birdiest areas of the park. Recent sightings include Osprey, American Kestrel, Little Blue Heron, Common Goldeneye and more.

Parts of the walk will be on pavement or relatively flat ground, but part will cover less even terrain including some steep slopes. We will start on the easy terrain early and save the tougher terrain for late in the walk, so birders with mobility challenges can peel off from the group easily if the going gets too rough.

We will meet at the parking lot at the Roy G Guerrero Metropolitan Park Plaza, which is off Grove Blvd (NOT Pleasant Valley Dr!). Turn to the right after the sign for the baseball fields, or look for the playground. Alternatively you can use this GPS pin: 30.24354, -97.69705
