RESCHEDULED: Birding at Yegua Knobbs Preserve

Unfortunately, this event has been rescheduled due to weather and safety concerns. We encourage you to check out our other upcoming events located on the Travis Audubon calendar. Happy Birding!

Original event: Saturday, May 11 – 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Rescheduled event: Saturday, May 18 – 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Yegua Knobbs Preserve, owned and managed by the Pines and Prairies Land Trust, is 302 acres of hardwood, pine, pasture, meadow, ponds, spring fed bog, and two prominent sandstone hills (knobbs).  The Preserve straddles the Bastrop-Lee county line northeast of McDade.  Normally one can visit only by special invitation, but on Saturday, May 11, the Preserve will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  (See link below)

Travis Audubon will lead a three-mile birding hike starting at 8:00 a.m. on a trail that traverses mostly sandy soils, but also loose rock, mild slopes, and tall vegetation.  The Preserve has a composting toilet, but no water – bring your own.  We will rendezvous on the east side of Austin at 7:00 a.m. sharp to carpool/caravan to the Preserve.  We will return to the rendezvous between noon and 1:00 p.m.  Participants are asked to register.  Registrants will be provided with additional details.
