Birding by Ear at Chaetura Canyon with Mikael Behrens

8:00 AM – 11:00 AM

The Texas Hill Country supports many species of birds, but dense oak-juniper woods covering much of it can make seeing these birds very difficult. Learning to recognize birds by sound is a way of observing them without actually having to see them. This three hour walk will focus on finding and identifying birds by sound rather than sight, on Travis Audubon’s Chaetura Canyon Preserve.

Some of our hill country birds that look very similar can sound very different, and some that sound very similar look very different. Learning the sounds of our common hill country birds gives you more tools to identify them, and opens a whole new dimension of behavior observation and interpretation.

Participation limited to 10.
