POSTPONED: Birding with Shoal Creek Conservancy

8:30 AM – 10:30 AM

Join members of the Shoal Creek Conservancy and Travis Audubon Society as we explore a beautiful section of the Shoal Creek Greenbelt. Starting at Kingsbury Commons and slowly moving north to Custer’s Meadow, we will look for birds in woodland, riparian, and open meadow habitats. We expect to see our usual year-round residents, such as Carolina Chickadees, titmice, Northern Mockingbirds, Northern Cardinal, Downy and Red-bellied woodpeckers, Carolina wren, Great blue herons, and more!  We will keep our eyes peeled for overhead raptors, including Red-shouldered hawks, Red-tailed hawks, and possibly Broad-winged hawks. And we will listen and look for late winter warblers, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped.

Beginners are welcome! TAS field trip leaders will assist all participants in spotting and hearing the birds we find, and will bring some loaner binoculars for those who don’t have their own. Dress in comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. The walk will be on paved concrete and crushed granite gravel, and will be non-strenuous. Bathrooms are available at the start of the walk.

Please park just east of the intersection of Kingsbury St and Parkway.
