7:00 AM – 11:30 AM
August can be a very interesting time for the birders who brave the hot temperatures to get out and see what is happening. Our breeding birds are hastily finishing up their breeding efforts and some early migrants are starting to show up. Join Shelia Hargis for a field trip focusing on both the breeding birds at Commons Ford and the migrants passing through. We’ll walk even slower than normal identifying and discussing bird behavior, discussing the natural history of some of the species we encounter, practicing our ID skills on immature birds, and practicing our birding-by-ear skills.
And if things get slow bird-wise, we’ll look at butterflies and other cool critters. We’ll also talk about iNaturalist, and Shelia will demonstrate how you can enter your sightings and contribute to the library of flora and fauna that has been documented at Commons Ford.
The trip is limited to 12 participants and reservations are required. More details will be provided a week or so before the field trip. For questions, contact Shelia at firstname.lastname@example.org.
