Fall Birding at Laguna Gloria (FULL)

7:30 AM – 9:30 AM

Start your day off right with a 1.5 mile bird walk of one of the city’s top native-plant gardens, accompanied by Travis Audubon and Laguna Gloria guides. We will walk the grounds looking for late fall migrants, including flycatchers and warblers, and winter residents settling in along the Colorado, including kinglets, herons, ducks, and more. We will peruse the river for mute swans and interesting river flyovers, and look up high for swallows and swifts. The walk will also include commentary by Laguna Gloria staff on the extensive native planting at the site.

All levels of birders are welcome. Bring binoculars, water, and wear sturdy shoes and a hat. We will have a limited set of loaner binoculars for those who need them. Our Travis Audubon leaders for this trip are Richard Deulofeut and Rachel Zierzow. Paustian Hajek will join from Laguna Gloria.

The walk will begin at 7:30 AM at the Laguna Gloria parking area. We will trace the river-adjacent paths taking our time to stake out the open green spaces. This walk will last approximately 2 hours. Some trails can be slick in the rain and the site includes several stairs, but the path will otherwise be non-strenuous.

This bird walk is free for all participants. About 24 hours before the walk, registrants will receive additional meet-up details via email. If you have questions about the walk, contact richarddeulofeut@gmail.com.

Prior registration for the free TAS bird walk is required. The walk will be limited to 12 participants.
