Geology Walk at Blair Woods

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Dr. Pete Rose will lead a walk and talk on the geology of Travis Audubon’s Blair Woods Sanctuary. Dr. Rose (Ph.D., Geology, University of Texas) has been a professional geologist for over 56 years. We will visit and explore the site of Coleman Springs, listed in Gunnar Brune’s Springs of Texas, and probable water supply for the 1830’s Fort Coleman. Coleman Springs is an excellent example of Upper Colorado River terrace gravel bed springs found in eastern Travis County. He will discuss the concept of river terrace deposits, geological components of springs, and the influence of geology and soils on vegetation.
