Join Martin Byhower and Celeste Treadway on easy 2 mile round-trip stroll along Berry Creek from Legacy Park Pavilion. Starts at a pond and winds through various habitats, including a pecan grove, open fields, riparian habitats, Live and Bur Oak groves and more. Some days in both winter and spring, such a trip produces more species than any other location in the county. Your guide has seen nearly 200 species at the park. In Spring it is a hotspot for warblers and neotropical migrants. In Winter, it is an excellent place to look for sparrows and other wintering northern and resident species, some of which are at their extralimital range. The site is normally available only to local residents and their guests, but your trip leader, who also works as a professional birding guide, will arrange for participants to be guests.
The route is an easy walk and amenable to use of a cane or walking stick, but is not wheelchair/walking frame accessible. Restrooms are available at the starting point.
Meeting point for the walk start will be the far end of the parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AGH9n1cjegEEBPfF7?g_st=ic
Registration is required and limited to 14 participants. Free to Travis Audubon Society members, $10.00 for non-members. If you join Travis Audubon within 30 days after the
walk, the $10.00 registration fee will be applied toward membership. Membership in Travis Audubon supports our ongoing mission of Promoting Conservation through
Birding.
