These events are scheduled for the second Saturday of the month in May through September from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. A guided tour will emphasize the history of Chaetura Canyon, plants, geology, birds, habitat restoration and (of course) Chimney Swifts!
Feel free to bring breakfast bars or snacks. Water and soft drinks will be provided. We will begin with a short orientation and then hit the trails.
Trails are well-developed, but a stretch of the main lower trail is moderately strenuous with:
- A very narrow path
- A 100-foot drop-off
- Loose rocks
- Many steps going down, then up back up again
This tour is not recommended for children under seven (7) years of age or people with balance problems.
Sturdy shoes or boots are required (no sandals, flip-flops or flats!). A walking stick, binoculars and a water bottle are recommended. Walking sticks and binoculars are available for loan. Cameras are also welcome, but we do ask that you put your cell phones on “vibrate” while on the trails.
This event is free to TAS members and their guests, but a minimum donation of $10 per person to Travis Audubon for Chaetura Canyon is encouraged. Note cards, t-shirts, limited edition prints and TAS merchandise will be available for purchase. All donations and purchases benefit the maintenance of and projects at Chaetura Canyon.
All proceeds benefit the TAS Chaetura Canyon Maintenance Fund for maintenance and ongoing conservation and education projects at Chaetura Canyon.
Further details will be emailed to registrants prior to the event. For questions, please contact the Stewards, Paul and Georgean Kyle: kyle@ChimneySwifts.org. Registration is required.
