Don’t miss this ‘before the party’ presentation – Purple Martin 101:

Kick off your Purple Martin Party experience with Purple Martin 101 — a fun, one-hour presentation, including Q&A. We’ll cover Purple Martin history, migration, lifecycle, and roosts.

Join us from 7–8 p.m. (arrive by 6:45 if you’d like to order food and drinks) on either Friday, July 18, or Saturday, August 26. Tuition is $15 for TAS members, $20 for non-members, with class size capped at 20. After class, you can walk right over to the TAS table and enjoy the roosting spectacle.

Please note: food and drink not included in the class price.

Meet this instructor: Susanne Harm moved to Austin in the spring of 1991. One of the first things she did was put up a Purple Martin house in the backyard. The Trio brand purple martin house included a free book with purchase, “What You Should Know About the Purple Martin.” This book was Susanne’s first official bird book, and she’s been obsessed with learning about and caring for martins and all other birds ever since.
After retiring in 2023, Susanne had more time to volunteer and learn alongside expert birders with Travis Audubon. She joined the Travis Audubon Master Birder program in 2024 and completed the Capital Area Master Naturalist program in 2025. She now regularly volunteers to help manage Purple Martin colonies at Hornsby Bend, Wells’ Branch, Terra Vista in Round Rock, as well as in her own backyard.

Payment for a class, workshop, or other fee-based event is due at the time of registration. If payment is not received within a week of registration, the registrant may be dropped from the roster. To withdraw from a class, workshop, or other fee-based event, please contact the Travis Audubon office: 512-300-BIRD (2473) or info@travisaudubon.org.

If a registrant withdraws from a class, workshop, or other fee-based event at least seven (7) days before the first session, Travis Audubon will offer a full refund less a $5.00 administrative fee that helps defray our costs. If the registrant withdraws less than seven (7) days before the first session, no refund will be made. If Travis Audubon cancels the class, workshop, or other fee-based event, we will fully refund the tuition.
