Speaker Series: Birdlife of a Shifting Tropical Frontier with Dr. Tim Brush

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Tim Brush is a recently retired professor of biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, based in Edinburg. He was educated at Earlham College, Arizona State University, and Rutgers University. Dr. Brush has published many articles on birds and their habitats, focusing on the changes that have occurred in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Although well-known as a prime birding area at all times of year, the Valley also supports a unique breeding bird community which has been less studied. Many changes have occurred, with former species disappearing, new species coming in, and other species changing in abundance.  He has especially focused on both tropical and temperate-zone birds near the edge of their range in South Texas.  Dr. Brush will discuss some case studies, and will try to put the Valley into perspective within the broader region.
