Super Tuesday at the Shield Ranch

7:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Join Laurie Foss for a Super Tuesday birding trip on the Shield Ranch. This event is in collaboration with the annual Westcave Christmas Bird Count. We’ll divide into small teams and cover the majority of the ranch. Expect to see a nice variety of wintering sparrows, waterfowl on the numerous creeks and ponds around the ranch, raptors and other wintering and resident birds. The birds seen on this field trip will contribute to the overall bird list for the Westcave CBC. You do not have to have CBC experience to join this field trip!

The field trip will include a combination of driving and hiking, according to conditions present at the time. Hiking will be on dirt roads and foot trails with rugged terrain. Registration is a must to help us organize routes and teams. Additional details and directions will be provided to registrants.

Email lauriefoss@shieldranch.com to participate. Come and join us to be a part of this important citizen science experience!

About Shield Ranch

The Shield Ranch, located west of Austin, is a beautiful example of classic Hill Country terrain, including Barton Creek and several tributaries. It has been in continuous operation by the Shield/Ayres/Bowen family since 1938. The ranch is noted for its long history of environmental stewardship while operating as a working cattle ranch, home to Camp El Ranchito, and family retreat. About 95% of the Shield Ranch is protected in perpetuity with conservation easements with the City of Austin and The Nature Conservancy.
