We will be offering women’s walks monthly which will allow us to witness the wonderful diversity of bird species in Central Texas throughout the year, from colorful spring warblers and melodious summer residents to unassuming fall migrants and subtle winter beauties. Our Women’s Walks celebrate the community of women birders and intentionally invite women to join us as we learn about birds and birding with other like-minded women. Everyone deserves to spend time in nature without fear for their safety or wondering if they will be welcomed into a group. These walks allow women to experience the joys of nature in a safe, affirming, and inclusive space. Walks will be led by knowledgeable female birders with Travis Audubon Society. All experience levels are welcome, from those who are brand-new to birding and want to learn more to those who have been birding for years. All ages are also welcome, from elders to youth. Please note that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or parental figure. We will prioritize space for women on these walks. Allies, friends, and family are also welcome to participate as space allows.
Please plan on arriving a few minutes before the scheduled start time of 8:00. The parking lot is quite small, so it is recommended that participants drive around to the wildflower meadow on the north side of the cemetery. When driving in, go past the maintenance gates and turn right. Follow the road along the curve and park alongside the meadow.
Please do not pull off the road into grassy areas. We understand it is common practice to pull off the road when parking, but there are burials throughout the cemetery that are very close to the road.
Bring binoculars if you have them (loaners will be available), wear closed-toed shoes, and clothing layers appropriate for the weather. Bring water and snacks if desired. Walk will proceed in the event of drizzle or very light rain, but will be canceled for lightning or heavy rain.
Bathrooms are available just inside the main entrance, immediately to the left, across from the small parking lot and administration offices.

You might ask why Travis Audubon is hosting this program specifically focused on women. Travis Audubon is committed to providing opportunities for access to the outdoors for all in a safe and inclusive environment. We know that when we create intentional opportunities for specific groups to participate in outdoor activities, they show up. This means that we can support our entire community of conservationists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts and help more people find their place in the great outdoors. To preserve the birds, wildlife, and habitats they need to survive, we need all hands-on deck.
