Commons Ford Update: July 5, 2011

Hello all,

We have some very exciting news to report in this update:

1. Austin Parks Foundation Grant. We are happy to report that Austin Parks Foundation has fully funded our latest grant request in the amount of $25,000. These funds will be applied toward the native plant and wildflower seed purchases and virtually assure that we will be able to proceed toward completion of the native prairie restoration project. Very special thanks to Rosie Weaver, Charlie McCabe and Austin Parks Foundation.

2. Removal of Invasives. Austin Parks and Recreation Department has commenced efforts to remove the smaller mesquite in the tract. By mid-July, Plateau Land Management will begin the process of removing the invasive grasses. Although we will obviously not be able to conduct a prescribed burn, we remain on schedule to prepare the seedbed using alternate methods and begin seed planting later this year.

3. Westlake Picayune Story. This local newspaper continues to be supportive of our prairie restoration efforts and included an update on our activities in a recent June issue of the paper.

Thanks again to all of you for your support in moving this important project forward.
