Rarities Found This Week:
- An American Bittern seen at the Colorado River Wildlife Sanctuary on 7/13 is a real surprise, a bird had been seen at the location in late spring. Further updates welcomed.
- A Piping Plover was seen by a handful of people on 7/18 at Hornsby Bend’s drying basin. The bird moved out of view several times, but may still be present.
- A Zone-tailed Hawk was reported near the intersection of Highway 71 and the Pedernales River on 7/13.
- A female American Redstart was carefully observed during the Hornsby Bend monthly survey on 7/13.
- A Peregrine Falcon has been a regular fixture on the west side of U.T.’s Tower. The bird is often seen between the clock and the observation deck. I don’t know of any previous over-summering Peregrine’s in the area.
- A Peregrine Falcon, early migrant, was working the shorebird flocks at Hornsby Bend on 7/18.
- A Warbling Vireo was detected in an Austin yard on 7/17. Anyone seeing this species at places like Big Webberville Park?
- Two Long-billed Curlews were on a private property in Bastrop County on 7/12.
Continuing From Previous Week:
- An Osprey continues to be seen on Lake Travis, seen at Bob Wentz Park on 7/14.
