EPISODE 64: The Water Hyacinth Trail

I don’t think I have ever seen as much Water Hyacinth in this river as we saw today. It was as if we were never out of visual contact all the way down the river. I have included some photos of the larger patches. If anyone has a explanation for this I would sure like to know what it is.

We got a few bird migrants today too. Wilson’s Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush and we also got an Empidonax flycatcher but the exact species is yet undetermined.

A few of the local species we got today include Pileated Woodpecker, Green Kingfisher, and Wood Ducks round out our list of 47 species.

We also got a Swainson’s Hawk but it was undetermined if it was one of our summer residents or a migrant.

To go along with the good species list is a good list of participants. Today we thank Pam Hohman, Joan Bishop, Peg Gavin, Maggie Burnett, Lee Charlton, Duncan Charlton, Eric Carpenter, Ron Armbruster, Bob West, Dennis Breining, John Barr, Stuart Bailey, and Earl Richards for their help today.
