Rare Bird Alert: June 1-19

A BROWN BOOBY continues to be observed and photographed near the dam from Canyon Overlook Park, Canyon Lake, Comal, 6/18.
A small group of CANADA GOOSE were photographed in flight from Reimers Ranch Park, Travis, 6/15.
LESSER NIGHTHAWKs continue to be reported and photographed from several potential breeding sites in Austin, Travis. Up to five nighthawks have been noted near the Austin American-Statesman complex, 6/13, and another pair from Cedar Creek Elementary School, 6/14. No recent reports for the additional pair seen early this month at the Village Shopping Center on W. Anderson Lane, but assumed still present. Updates appreciated!
A single BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was described from the 2nd drying bed at Hornsby Bend, Travis, 6/18.
A COMMON LOON was photographed at Belton Lake, Bell, 6/11.
ZONE-TAILED HAWK was photographed at Reimers Ranch Park, Travis, 6/13.
RED-HEADED WOODPECKERs continue at Bastrop State Park, most recently noted from Park Road 1C and the Red Trail, Bastrop, 6/11.
A breeding pair of BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHERs continue at Commons Ford Park, Travis, 6/15.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60-mile radius, centered on the Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine. Photo or audio documentation for species with challenging IDs will be mentioned if they are known to exist.
