Visit Chaetura Canyon This Summer

Anyone who has visited Chaetura Canyon will tell you that it is a truly magical place. With over 150 avian species documented within its boundaries, the sanctuary is a haven for birds, particularly the Chimney Swifts that nest in the 18 towers around the property. Whether you have been a fan of Chaetura Canyon for years or have never visited, make this summer one in which you find yourself at this 15-acre slice of hill country paradise. Register for a morning canyon crawl or an evening swift watch today– Sanctuary Stewards Georgean and Paul would love for you to join them!

Morning Canyon Crawl

The event will be from 8:00 – 10:00 AM with emphasis on history of Chaetura Canyon, plants, geology, birds, habitat restoration and (of course) Chimney Swifts!

Feel free to bring breakfast bars or snacks.  Water and soft drinks will be provided.  We will begin with a short orientation, and then hit the trails.

Trails are well-developed, but some of the lower ones are steep with many steps and moderately difficult.  Sturdy shoes or boots, a walking stick, binoculars and a water bottle are recommended.  Walking sticks and binoculars are available for loan.  Cameras are also welcome, but we do ask that you put your cell phones on “vibrate” while on the trails.

This event is free to TAS members and their guests, but donations to Travis Audubon for Chaetura Canyon are encouraged.   Note cards, t-shirts, limited edition prints and TAS merchandise will be available for purchase.  All donations and purchases benefit the maintenance of and projects at Chaetura Canyon.

Further details will be emailed to registrants prior to the event. For questions, please contact kyle@ChimneySwifts.org.
