2017 Conservation Award Hero Mickey Burleson
Mickey Burleson has dedicated much of her life to recovering Texas’s native Blackland Prairies and conserving Texas wildlife. She and her late husband have been called the first prairie restorationists in Texas. Together they restored over one hundred acres of former cotton fields on their Burleson Prairie and coauthored an important guide to tall grass restoration. She has been a close partner to Travis Audubon, Native Prairie Association of Texas, Master Naturalists, and many other groups and served on the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission as well as numerous boards including Nature Conservancy of Texas, Texas Land Conservancy, and Texas Audubon Society. She is a true conservation hero!
