Join leader Terry Banks to bird this beautiful park 18 miles north of Fredericksburg.  Enchanted Rock is a large park dominated by an interesting geological feature – a huge granite dome which, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife, is the “inside of a volcano that didn’t erupt”.  This dome is surrounded by many more granite outcroppings, vegetation typical of the Texas Hill Country, and a hilly terrain. In the past we have seen Rufous-crowned and Black-throated sparrows, various overwintering sparrows, Rock and Canyon Wrens, and a host of other birds.  Expect to hike about 2-5 miles – this is a moderately difficult hiking/birding experience, but there are many places in the park where birders can find good birding just from the road, so if you have mobility limitations, this field trip is still possible for you.  (Discuss limited mobility with the field trip leader before the trip – contact Terry at 55bluebirds@att.net )

Trip size limited to 10. Registration is first required on the TAS site, then participants must also reserve their own day pass for the park, separate from the TAS registration. If the trip must be postponed due to weather, the makeup date will be 1/30/22. All participants are expected to follow Travis Audubon’s COVID-19 policies.
