EPISODE 119: Wow, Check Out that Flow Rate

After years with just a minimal flow rates it was nice to actually have some water. Flow this
morning was about 2000 cfs. Plenty of water for a nice ride. The river was so fast we were
in the big park by noonish, and that is after about a 45 minute stop.

Even at that it was not flowing so fast we were unable to find some good stuff. Spring
migrants / arrivals include Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Swainson’s Hawk, and Black-throated
Green Warbler. There were a few Cattle Egret and Inca dove. Still hanging around were some
Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped Warblers and American Goldfinch. Probably the best of the day
was a Peregrine Falcon.

Early in the day I think it was too chilly for herptiles or butterflies but as the day went
on we started to see more. Blotched Watersnake, Map Turtles and Tiger Swallowtail were some
of the better sightings. I think there was too much flow to catch the Spotted Gar spawning

Sorry I have to report but the flowers were scarce.

Today’s heroine was Linda Williams. She brought cookies. We also had Stacey Bucklin, Sharon
Richardson, Wendy Harte, Debbie Sharp, Steve Mackey, Denis Breining, Bob West, Mike Watts,
Bobby Hughes, CR Smith, John Barr, and Kevin Anderson. Thank you all for another great day.
