Comments: EPISODE 103: Chilly and Grey Most of the Day
This was the first survey since last winter we had leafless trees. Because of that we were able to see thing normally concealed by the leaves. I really enjoy birding in the winter because of the abundance of birds and the ease of finding them.
Easy enough to find we amass an impressive list of 57 species. Topping that list include Pileated Woodpecker, the local resident Bald Eagle (just one), and two Peregrine Falcons. We watched one of the Peregrine for quite a while hoping to see it make a strike. It missed on a couple of weak attempts.
The winter birds have returned. Five sparrow species, five woodpecker species, Yellow-rumped and Orange-crowned Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, ducks and grebes are now here for the season.
Once things began to warm up the turtles started to come out and run around.
For such a chilly and gray winter day we had a very nice crew. Joining us today were Linda Williams, Pam Hohman, Wilda Campbell, Peg Gavin, Sharon Richardson, Monica Ford, Caroline Taylor, Ashleigh Lassiter, Ryan Lassiter, Kim Parades, Bobby Hughes, Jeff Richardson, Stuart Bailey, Ron Armbruster, Bobby Hughes, John Barr, Bob West, and Denis Breining. Thank you all for your help.
