We are thrilled to announce that the Texas Centennial Historical Marker at Blair Woods has been officially installed as of last week. This significant milestone was achieved with invaluable support from Dr. Circe Sturm and Dr. Craig Campbell from UT Austin who played a crucial role in the reinterpretation of the marker’s content.
The reinterpretation was driven by a desire to present a more accurate and inclusive account of the site’s history, reflecting the diverse contributions and perspectives that have shaped our community. This update ensures that the historical narrative is both comprehensive and representative of all voices.
A big thank you goes out to Mark Wilson for his dedicated assistance and support, as well as his help and Flo Rice’s assistance with installing the sign. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the IDEA Committee, the Board of Directors, the Blair Woods Core Team and the entire Travis Audubon staff for their collective efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
Our appreciation also extends to Preservation Austin and the Travis County Historical Commission for their support of this project and their commitment to preserving our history.
We invite everyone to visit Blair Woods to view the updated marker and explore the enriched history it now represents. Thank you to all who have made this project a success!
